Visas can be obtained from Lao Embassies and Consulates abroad. In addition, visas can be obtained on arrival at the international checkpoints, and a fee is 30 US$ with a validity of 15 days, sometimes you will receive a visa for a 30 day period.

Tourist visas obtained at Embassies or Consulates abroad are valid for 30 days. Fo those who wish to extend their stay, it is possible to extend visas at the Immigaration Office in Vientiane, or through certified travel agencies.

Visa exemptions apply to those nationals visiting from the countries of Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines.

Remember to always have extra photos with you just in case.

If you are coming in from Thailand by road - eg: the friendship bridge near Nongkai, you can also get a visa at the check point. If you are coming in by road from Cambodia at the Don Krolor border crossing, you cannot get a visa at this crossing. You must get the visa in Phnom Penh before leaving.
