Yes and No!! Not a good answer is it. The reason I say this is because of the following:
Yes you can take a car to Laos but I believe only for 3 days unless you have all the correct paperwork. Going to Laos across the border near Stung Treng which I imagine is what you are planning, in Stung Treng you need to get a special permit to take your car across but is only for 3 days. This would really only get you to Pakse and no further. I can give you a contact for more information if you wish. You may have to look at just going across and then hiring a vehicle in Laos to do your travelling.

Again I can give you more details on hiring vehicles and a contact in Stung Treng to take you across to Pakse etc, just let me know what other info you would be requiring but as far as I am aware that is all that is available at present. Also remember the Sea games will be on from 19th to approx 23 December so there is not much accommodation etc available - again so I believe.
