Great job by the US Navy SEAL team that finally got OBL. The SEALs are one of the finest special ops groups in the world - and one of the most humble, unlike other US military! The coordination that went into this operation was exceptional from all reporting that I've read and from personal contacts. This was not the case a few years ago when agencies were very much compartmentalised

Individual countries will officially advise about possible revenge attacks by OBL sympathisers to nationals traveling - PLEASE WATCH THESE ADVISORIES. I'm sure, however, that not many read the advisories.

1. Be wary if planning travel to Indonesia, in particular. In fact, DO NOT GO!!!!!

2. Here in Cambodia there have been fundamental Islamists at work. They've been here for a while and their activities have been increasing, but low-level. Cambodian authorities are on top of the situation - for now. And thankfully we're into the low season. But, you need to plan carefully for future events.

I'm not scare mongering. Who foresaw the Bali attacks? Certainly Cambodia is not like the situation you see in Indonesia. But it is a soft country with porous borders.

3. Do your homework, plan accordingly, and put safety procedures in place - unlike those arseholes who caused 300+ deaths on the bridge last Water Festival.

4. If you run an entertainment activity - bar, nightclub, restaurant, special promotion etc - YOU HAVE A DUTY OF CARE TO YOUR PATRONS.

Please help keep and promote Cambodia as a safe and favoured tourist destination.

You have a point as you never know what might happen.

Look at 9/11 in Manhattan, nobody could have expected that to happen.

Often these terrorists don't even come from the same country like in Iraq most of the suicide bombers came from other countries and were despised by all kinds of Iraqis alike.

But I think they would go for a more high profile target than Cambodia, more likely they would target Indonesia/Bali again or maybe Thailand.

I hope not though!

Thanks Gondal, and we all share your hopes Rigger .

Cambodia's reputation as a safe destination may unfortunately make it a prime target for extreme behaviours.

Another attack in Indonesia would just be another attack. Expected and not surprising. An attack on a soft target gets a lot more publicity. Sick but true.

I'm not sure what any of us can really do.

Personal situational awareness won't prevent an attack. One could mitigate potential harm to themselves by becoming recluse. That in itself is a win for those intent on causing disruption, suffering and death.

How can those who operate entertainment venues extend their duty of care against a random, opportunistic attack?

What planning against undefined and unprecedented future events could one possibly execute?

The bridge thing was entirely different and totally predictable and preventable. The more recent billboard blow down incident could easily have ended in tears again by virtue of negligence (cheap and inadequate engineering). Relatively lucky on that count. Serious accountability driven by the insurers is long overdue in The Kingdom. Duty of care here is achievable.

In the mean time.........

Party like there's no tomorrow!!!!
