Somewhere I saw something which indicated this, it seems a bit unlikely but it would be nice to get a bit of feedback like ->

Assuming my plan all goes well, I should be able to earn cash initially by teaching English with a view to get involved with something a little more exciting at a later point. I'll be PP based for the first year (Aug '09 to Aug '10), in Aug '10 I'll need to return to Blighty for me bro's wedding but this is the only time I really want to be back here. Is it going to be problematic getting back into Cambo upon my return?

The thing that I saw which kinda said this may be the case was that I might need to stay out of Cambo for the period of time I was there initially, before re-entering.

Have any of you returned to your places of origin for a short stay after a long time in Cambo, and was it easy to get back in?

BTW - sorry for the barrage of questions I have, it's useful to gain some knowledge rather than go in without knowing what surprises to expect Wink

Get a work visa dude (AKA 'e' visa). You can apply in the Uk and extend it as many times as you want. In or out, with an e visa the Camb gov couldn't care less if you ever do a stroke of work for the rest of your natural life. Most expats take advantage ...

Interesting.

Now, the TEFL training camp I've got myself signed up with says

On the plane you should have been given an application for a visa on arrival as well as an arrival and departure card. You are best off to fill out these forms on the plane so that you are ready to go, but if not, you can obtain them and fill them out at the immigration desk on arrival. If you are planning to stay and work in Cambodia be sure to enter that you are applying for a "business" visa. It is only $5 more than the tourist visa, but can be renewed without leaving the country, and it is the one you need for employment.

This was what I was planning on doing, it was more when I leave for me bro's wedding and then come back, but I think you've answered that one, thanks Smile

Rundown on visas in Cambodia:
* If staying less than a month, buy a 30-day tourist visa on arrival ($20, single entry). These can't be extended and if you want to stay past a month you have to do a border run.
* If staying more than a month, buy a 30-day business visa on arrival ($25, single entry). Unlike the tourist visa, this can be extended into a multiple entry visa once you've arrived (easiest bet is via a travel agency or via Lucky!Lucky! motorbike rental shop). You don't need to be here to work or to do business, there's no eligibility criteria for the business visa except to put on the form that you're here to do business/work.

There's no restrictions on leaving the country and having to stay out for a certain amount of time. Entering and exiting here is extremely easy, and once you're here on a business visa it's straightforward to do things like extend your visa, unlike some other countries around here (*ahem*Thailand*ahem*). The only complication is in changing visa types (eg tourist to business) which you do need to do a border run for. The secret is just to get a business visa on arrival if there's any chance you're going to want to stay for more than 30 days.

The "e" in "e-visa" stands for electronic. If you want to you can get tourist or business visas online, I think. There's no need to apply for an e-visa really, because even though you skip the line for getting a visa when you arrive, you still have to wait for your bags to come out anyway (though these days baggage is surprisingly quick in PNH airport).

The only visas you need to apply for outside the country are official and diplomatic visas. These can be issued with 30 day validity by embassies and consulates and then extended once you're in country.

Ah fantastic, multiple entry on business visa and no-Thailand-esque visa restrictions, this means I can take some time out and see me mates in Nong Khai and Attapeu as well as trip back to Blighty for me bro's wedding without any worry. Maybe there are some plus sides to Cambo I'd not yet fully appreciated

I got my visa at PP airport on arrival from BKK and it was ok.I decided not to get my visa on the net because I have heard that some people have been scammed this way. If coming in from Thailnd you have to decide wether to pay in dollars or baht depending which currency gives you the best deal.
I only went to Cambodia because of the easy visa situation in comparison to Thailand. All the other posts gave sound advice,I just would not take the chance online when it is so easy to get a visa at the airport.

Thailand is losing a lot of expats to Cambodia because of the vast difference in visa hoops-to-jump-through.

My Thailand friends regularly complain that the visa regs there are becoming nightmarish.

Here in Cambodia you pay your $25 at the airport for a work visa, hand over a photo, & you're in.

Thereafter if you want to stay longer, just pay off an Immigration officer or do the whole thing thru a travel agent - about $200 or so for a year's work visa. Not even a form to fill in this time.
