I purchased a Nintendo Wii in the US and had it shipped to Cambodia a couple of months ago. We will be leaving to move there and less less then two weeks. I have been informed that a Wii purchased in US would not work in Cambodia. Not only because of the electricity being 220 there, but the signal variation of the TV's from US and Cambodia. Does anyone know if that is true or not, and if so do you have any suggestions of something that might make it work?

Thanks!

GP

I haven't had an issue with an xbox or wii and the TV signals, you can get a voltage converter here very cheap.

If you want to get games here you'll have to get it chipped for about $20-30 and then you can buy the $2 pirated games at the local shops.

I agree with the post above.

Check the back of your TV (on the white label near all the connections):

Most modern TV's will be both Dual Voltage (110/220) and Dual Signal (NTSC / PAL).

If you are not bringing a TV over, then the Wii will need a voltage regulator, but should work on any modern TV / LCD here.

Oh thank you, that makes me feel better. I have spent a lot of money on both the game system and the games. By the way what do you mean by chipped?

He means having some software installed that will allow you to play counterfeit games.

The installation will invalidate the warranty, but the money saved by buying copies instead of originals will quickly surpass the cost of a new unit should anything go wrong.

Not sure where you can do it in Phnom Penh, but it is definitely possible.

at sorya mall, there is a whole floor of shops dedicated to that sort of thing, your old games will still work, there is nowhere in PP to buy legitimate games.
