Don't buy a dog at the Monivong "Pet Store"

I read the boards and advice but didn't listen and bought a dog on the corner of Monivong. The girlfriend had to have him. He died the other day after two weeks. We had him just long enough for her to get attached. Here are some lessons learned/advice, don't be stupid like me and ignore it:

1. Whereever you buy a pet get it vaccinated ASAP, I waited because of work which probably contributed to him dying
2. When I brought him home and washed him he had over 15 ticks on him, not to mention the fleas. He was only about 20cm long. That couldn't have been good.
3. Find a good vet! The small Khmer place I used sucked. They definetely didn't help. They just said, "Let him die." They didn't try anything!
4. Don't buy a pet from the small shops on the side of the road!

Hope this helps somebody. If you know any place to get a proper pet it would be good to post it here. Are there any proper pet stores in Phnom Penh?

I am really sorry to hear about that. I go past that doggy dungeon every day and I hate seeing it. Maybe I will abuse him today for you.

In fact...no, I WILL abuse him.

Why would you buy a dog from there?
Im surprised he lived as long as he did.
Did you ask for your money back?

I looked around town for a proper pet store and couldn't find one. My girlfriend knew three places but they were pretty shady. I looked in yellow pages and only found pet food and vets. We were "in the market" for a couple months so I broke down against my better judgement. Any recommendations on good pet stores or should I just buy in Thailand?

Haven't asked for money back yet, in provinces working. I'll definetely spread the word about this place and hope nobody else pulls a dumb move.

There's often kittens and puppies available from litters of owners who didn't move fast enough to neuter their pets, or decided not to and then weren't effective at protecting the honor of l'il Pup or Kitty.

You might want to post here seeking a pet, check notice boards / put up a notice at places like The Living Room, Java Cafe... there may be pets to pass on as people must leave the country (!) or else pregnant pets so you can schedule an adoption...

There's a litter of cute kittens at my office at the moment, who may need a home when they're a little older...

If you're loooking for a mutt to please the girlfriend, just look around PNH, there are plenty of stray dogs with puppies that no one really takes care of. If you are looking for well cared for puppies with pedigree, see me. I have Siberian Husky puppies, but these are not meant to be apartment dwellers.
