The second conference on trade and investment promotion for the Triangle Development Area - comprised of 10 border provinces in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam - wrapped up in Sihanoukville Feb 17.
The two day conference, attended by about 100 businesspersons and delegations from the three countries, was chaired by Cambodian Minister of Commerce Cham Prasidh.
Investment procedures were discussed and preparations were made to publish a joint statement about the Triangle Area's potential to attract domestic and foreign investors, said Mao Thora, under-secretary of state for the Ministry of Commerce.
"The ten provinces in the three countries have potential for agriculture, hydropower, tourism, gold and bauxite mines and industries for import-export production," said Thora. Stung Treng, Mondolkiri, and Ratanakkiri are Cambodia's three provinces included in the Triangle Development Area
Plans to develop the area were made concrete in Vientiane, Laos in November, 2004, following ratification from the three nations' premiers, said Cham Prasidh. Vietnamese Embassy spokesman Tram Bakem said that the conference would help attract investors to the area.
