As a spin off to the Cambodia is Spambodia forum topic, many expats in Vietnam are now adverse to giving their business cards to Vietnamese nationals at networking events, especially when their card says...Sales / marketing and Business development, which translated means I am going to add you to my unsolicited spam list with NO way for you to unsubscribe.

Name and shame time..
Spam is simply counter productive
Most people don't realize that in the global north, spam considered to be an extremely bad business practice.

Congratulations Module 7 in Hanoi - you are our 1st Vietnam participant.

After several requests to removed from your list as I do NOT live in Hanoi, its time you were listed. You emails DO not have an unsubscribe link or even a footer that would read something like "if you do not wish to receive these emails simply reply with remove in the subject line"

Phatty's bar in Saigon - they have a prize draw as a ruse to get biz cards, put my card in during their first week, wish I had not.

a) they call themselves Phatty/'s in the subject line

b) they send from NO email address (invisible sender)

Based on A and B above, they KNOW this is spam, and are taking counter-measures to get it to your inbox - no chance to remove your name or unsubscribe, and with these methods, even to block? Have blocked them now using keywords, but it's only because they put so much effort into spamming that I think it's an intrusion - and I avoid their bar as a result.

Don't Phattys have a sign on the business card bowl saying that you'll be added to their mailing list? I wouldn't mind but the email has exactly the same content every week - $1 Fridays etc. If I'm going to be on their mailing list I'd at least expect a few deals or specials.

They may have, I never go there anymore, they didn't when I put my card in, and you're right, it's always the same **** and the fact they work hard at avoiding being tagged as spammers shows they have a history or a need to do so!
