Hi, I recently posted a topic looking for a two bedroom apartment in the BBK1 area or somewhere central. A lot of people have looked at the post but no offers yet, so thought I would add some additional information. To recap, we are a family of three looking for an apartment from October 23, 2008 until mid December 2008, about 2 months.

We are a responsible and mature professional middle aged couple from Melbourne Australia, with an older teenager. I’m currently on an internship with a NGO in the BBK1 area.

Ideally our price range is 300-500, however, we are willing to negotiate around this for the right place, we are willing to pay a reasonable market rate for the property. We can supply references if required.

I think our situation might suit someone who is vacating their property for a short period of time, for holidays or work, and would like the safety and assurance of knowing there apartment is being looked after by some responsible people while they are away. However, if you have an apartment that you are willing to rent on a short term basis please let me know also.

If you know of, or have an aprtment that might suit our needs please send me a message so we can discuss further.

Hi Joff,

Given the fact that you will only be here for a couple of months, it will probably be difficult to find a landlord willing to rent out a full furnished apartment and to have it organized before you arrive.

There are a few options that I can think of:

Himawari - Serviced hotel style apartments with everything you need, including internet, cooking facilities, security, and decent location. Unfortunately, I think prices start at about $2000 per month, so this probably isn't an option.

Imperial Gardens - Just up the road from Himawari, basically the same thing but with individual houses. Around the same price range as Himawari

Pickled Parrot - 24hr Aussy run bar with guest house ontop. I know of quite a few semi-expats who come here for a few months at a time and stay there. It has full WiFi coverage, good food, good 9 ball table, and clean rooms. Rooms are around $25 a night, but get in touch with them and they should be able to sort out a decent monthly rate if you're getting two rooms.

Wait and See - Book a few nights at the Pickled Parrot, then take a tuk tuk around town and see if you can spot any decent properties for rent. If you do, get your tuk tuk driver to arrange an appointment, go to an ATM and take out two months of rent in cash, and offer it to the landlord. Usually landlords here take 3 months rent as deposit, but if you show up as a happy family with two months rent in cash, they might think differently.

I'm at work now and can't find the contact emails for any of these places, but with luck someone else will fill you in, if not I'll update tomorrow.

thanks Anthony, yes the likes of Himawarri are out of my price range.

I am in Phnom Penh now. So I realise how tight the market is at the moment and how difficult it will be to rent for such a short period. So will try and work out something with a guest house if nothing eventuates , but I was actually hoping there might be someone in an established apartment who is going away who might like to make some money and have there place looked after while they are away. Im doing that for someone at the moment, but they return soon.

So if there is any one out there who potentialy has a property, but is unsure about renting to a stranger, Im more than happy to meet you, before any decision is made.

Your timing is terrible. All the schools are back on campus now. I think you might have better luck at the Nordic Guesthouse. They have a very large apartment up top for about $600. Its on 136 though which is a bit busy at night but not too offensive.

WTF???

Find your own apartment, I'm going somewhere where people will appreciate me for my modest brilliance and masculine charm.
