I have a student who is trying to rehouse a monkey which has been kept as a pet for about two years. I have no idea what type of monkey it is, I think it is about two years old and may be male. It seems to be exhibiting violent behavior but this may be due to jealousy etc. I would like the monkey to go to a credible center that tries to give animals the chance to live a more 'natural' life and not just get passed on as another pet. I have heard that the zoo outside of Phnom Penh has a center which tries to do this but do not have a phone number/email or contact for anyone who could help. Can anyone provide me with this information so I can help the monkey? I would be very grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks
hi!
If it is a macaque you will have problems to find him a new home, but if it's an endangered species (gibbon, silver langure...) try it with the ACCB (Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity). It's located north of siem reap but they may come to you/send someone to pick the monkey up.
just have a look at http://www.accb-cambodia.org. there you'll find the contact details as well as some pictures to classify the monkey....
good luck!

Monkey business in Cambodia

For some crazy reason, foreigners who decide to live in Southeast Asia seem to consistently feel the urge to get a monkey. It's some sort of mark that you have decided to become an official expatriate.
Nearly every long term Cambodian expat I know has had a monkey - usually a macaque - at some point in their stay. They all tell the same stories. Monkeys are lovely to look at, but a nightmare to hold.

Thank you for all your help, I hope we can now find a new home
That is a great article about monkey ownership.
I understand that as monkey grow older they become harder to look after.
Does the writer still have "Bob"? Any more funny stories or cautionary tales?
maybe this'd be a good time to start a thread with a list of places where one can go for a rabies shot ...

LOL, I did a quick google and think you might be right - monkeys seem to be infectious little buggers
