Friends-International (FI) is a social enterprise that works with marginalized urban children and youth, their families and communities, to help them become independent and productive citizens of their countries.
We are dedicated to developing businesses as part of our programs to provide best practice services to our target groups and to support the overall sustainability of our organization and our partners.
Based in our headquarters in Phnom Penh, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to be the Visual Merchandiser Volunteer, supporting our social businesses for a period of 3-6 months in a non-paid position.

Position overview
The Visual Merchandiser Volunteer is part of the Friends Social Business team working on shaping the organization’s visual marketing approach in the Friends ‘N’ Stuff stores.

Key responsibilities:
• Design and implement creative concepts for in-store and window displays
• Maintain an organized, visually appealing and welcoming store environment by moving and positioning store merchandise (Store revamp of furniture and POS stands)
• Present effective in-store promotional ideas to increase store profits and sales
• Guide and support marketing and sales officers as well as designers in production of in-store advertisement material (banners, posters, etc.)
• Build capacity by providing trainings to local teams to maintain displays
• Creatively implement suggestions from the marketing and sales team regarding discount sales etc, to attract more store customers.

Requirements and qualifications:
• Fluent in English
• Bsc/BA/tertiary studies in visual merchandising or related field or minimum 2-3 years full-time work experience in carrying out visual displays within the retail industry
• Great communication skills
• Proven organizational skills
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office

Personal characteristics
• Creativity: A great eye for detail & a passion for visual merchandising
• Ability to use own initiative: Not afraid to work hands on in the stores
• Strong communication & interpersonal skills to build relationships across the business.

Additional bonus skills
• Experience in Asian cultures – from living/working in Asia or speaking an Asian language

This will be a voluntary non-paid position.

The position is based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We do not offer financial relocation support but strongly encourage candidates living outside of Cambodia to apply.

I am expressing interest in position as a visual merchandiser. My name is James Williamson and I currently live in Hobart Tasmania. until january 2012 I had a small gallery / shop in Salamanca Place in Hobart. and operated there for more than 13 years. We specialised in Japanese textiles and antiques.This kept us busy as our children grew up . I have a domain and a website/blog at www.klektik.com.
My partner Vanessa Newton-Brown and I are planning to come to Cambodia from the 30th September until the 19th October. to research a future move to Phnom Penh. I would like to speak to you about the possibility of working/volunteering at some time in the future.
