Headlining the next installment of Supersize Saigon on May 26 are godfathers of Chinese rock PK14 supported by Bad Neighbor. And on the decks in the Blue Room will be highly rated American turntablist Jayceeoh. Get ready for one hell of a show.

Just when you thought Supersize Saigon couldn’t possibly get any bigger, the godfathers of Chinese rock, P.K. 14, are returning to the city that they left in shock and awe in 2009 to headline Vasco’s Yellow Room on Thursday May 26.

The legendary punk rock quartet from Beijing will be supported by an incredible line-up of local and international talent, including Bad Neighbor (playing an exclusively punk-rock set), while the Blue Room will see New York’s internationally acclaimed JayCeeOh share the decks with Saigon’s own Superkid (Everyone’s A DJ), Jordan Howard and a special eclectic set by DJ Dangle.

Regarded as the vanguard of the ‘No Beijing’ rock explosion in the early 00s, P.K. 14 revolutionised their country’s musical landscape by inspiring an entire generation of young and disaffected Chinese musicians, poets and artists with their angular, acerbic and visceral brand of original punk rock.

Nominated in the “Best Band” and “Best Rock Band” categories at the Chinese Music Media Awards — dubbed the Chinese equivalent of The Grammys — in 2006, Yang Haisong (vocals), Xu Bo (guitars), Shi Xudong (bass) and Jonathan Leijonhufvud (drums) blew Saigon away two years ago when they headlined the third Hey Ho! Lets Go! Punk Rock Festival at Cage.

However, if balls-to-the-wall punk rock isn’t quite your thing, fret not, Supersize Saigon has all bases covered. JayCeeOh combines turntablism and top notch selecting to move any crowd from intimate gatherings to packed-out super-clubs. A master DJ who can integrate everything from hip-hop, electro, rock, pop, mash-up, funk, soul and reggae through to house, JayCeeOh has performed alongside the likes of Kanye West, Wu-Tang Clan and RJD2.

DJ Dangle has been working the decks for the past 10 years and his style comes from constant digging for new wax across the States and finding diamonds in the rough as he buys old record collections and picks out the little known gems. Expect to hear everything from 1980s Latin freestyle to Baltimore club.

Rounding off this exciting line-up of local and international talent are DJs Jordan Howard and Superkid. Both have gone on to establish two of the city’s most popular weekly and monthly live events in the form of Vasco’s Thursdays andEveryone’s A DJ. From hip hop and punk rock to 1980s and electronica, Jordan continually spins eclectic mixes that keep the crowds happy whilst Superkid has made a name for herself by playing out mashed-up dance and electro remixes of tracks by the likes of TV On The Radio, Pixies, Bloc Party and Joy Division.

Over two rooms of block rockin’ riffs and beats this night is set to be the rock event of the year. And for only VND150K (with a free Jim Beam & Cola included!) this is one gig you won’t want to miss!
