Myanmar wins Mekong Youth U-21 Football Cup 2011, beating Thailand 2-1

PHNOM PENH, October 16 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar beat Thailand 2-1 in the final of the 1st Mekong Region Youth U-21 International Football Tournament BIDC Cup 2011 at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

During the match, Thailand's Pakorn Parmpak scored one goal in the 40th minute, and in return, Myanmar's Zaw Lin levelled the score in the 42nd minute and Thet Naing scored another goal in the extra time.

At the end, Myanmar beat Thailand 2-1, winning the Cup and 20,000 U.S. dollar award.

The Mekong Youth U21 Football Cup 2011 kicked off here on October 8 with football teams from China (Hongxiang FC), Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and host Cambodia.

The money from ticket sales would be donated to Cambodian Red Cross in order to help Cambodian people affected by floods.

Cambodia has been hit the worst by Mekong River and flash floods since early August. To date, the floods have killed at least 247 people, and affected 1.5 million people. Also, more than 390,000 hectares of rice paddies have been inundated and other 190,000 were completed damaged, according to the latest government reports.
