Indonesia Set for Historic Opening of 26th SEA games

Today is 11-11-11, It will be a historic moment for Indonesia as the Peninsula country is set to flag off the 'Southeast Asian nations' SEA Games in 2011.

It will be the fourth time for Indonesia to after 1979, 1987 and 1997. In the three previous editions of this administration, contingent Indonesia became overall champion.

Today is also a very historic moment for the city of Palembang and all its elements. Palembang became the first city outside of Jakarta which hosted the SEA Games in the country. Although hit by several problems, the 26 th SEA Games would be held in the City Mpek-Mpek.

The 26th SEA Games will be opened on Earth Gelora Sriwijaya, Jakabaring, Palembang, Friday, November 11, 2011 starting at 19:00. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will officially open the annual party to followed by the 11 ASEAN countries.
2011 SEA Games official song, 'We Can' by composer Addie MS will be sung. Agnes Monica melodious voice, and Judith Jay Tobing artist will represent Indonesia. Not to forget the Filipino artist, singer KC Concepcion and Malaysia, Jaclyn Victor.

After the appearance of the artists above, the parade of athletes from 11 participating countries were colored car show carnival with the symbols of each country. Chairman Inasoc, Rita Subowo and Menpora Andi Mallarangeng will give you a welcome.

Meanwhile, Yesterday witnessed the flag raising Ceremony of the Cambodia Delegations. In Palembang, NOCC President Dr. Thong Khon and Chef De Mission Vath Chamroeun led the Athletes and officials to the Ceremony while a similar ceremony was held in Jakarta presided over by the Deputy Governor of Jakarta city and Mr. Nhan Sokvisal, Deputy CDM led other athletes and officials to the ceremony.

A total of 4,940 Athletes will be taking part in 49 sports (29 sports in Palembang and 20 sports in Jakarta) from 11 November to 22 November.

Indonesia Leads the pack with 1016 athletes followed by Thailand with 706 Athletes. Malaysia has 622 Athletes while Vietnam has 607.

Philippines and Myanmar will compete with 533 and 499 respectively. Singapore has 416 athletes while Laos will compete with 223.

Trailing behind is Cambodia with 165 Athletes while the tiny nations of Timor leste and Brunei have 93 and 60 athletes respectively.
