Prime Minister Hun Sen arrived back in Cambodia yesterday afternoon after attending the 17th presidential inauguration ceremony in Seoul, South Korea.
Speaking at Phnom Penh International Airport, Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong (also Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) who accompanied the premier told reporters that, besides attending the inaugural ceremony during his three day visit, Hun Sen also held bilateral talks with Korean President Lee Myung-bak, who promised to visit Cambodia this year.
Hor Namhong said Lee Myungbak invited officials from only eight countries with close relations to attend the presidential inaugural ceremony. "Lee Myung-bak worked as an economic advisor to Hun Sen since 2000, so he has good and close relations with the premier and it is our pride that the president of Korea, which is one of the economic tigers in Asia, is the advisor to our prime minister," he said.
Relations between Cambodia and Korea began in 1997, Hor Namhong continued, and developed rapidly. "Over 11 years of diplomatic ties with Korea, the country has assisted Cambodia in many sectors ranging from investment to culture and in the future Korea will be the leader in skyscraper construction in Cambodia," he said.
