With International Francophone Day coming up Mar 20, the French Cultural Center (CCF) is presenting the Fifth CineMekong Film Festival Mar 15-21 in Phnom Penh. The films will be shown free of charge to Cambodians.
CCF Director Alain Arnaudet said the festival is being presented to show the culture, customs and traditions of all the Mekong River countries.
"The CCF wants to show the French as well as Asian film worlds to the [former] French-speaking Asian regions," he said.
Arnaudet said the festival will allow Cambodians to see various types of films from other Asian countries. The films at the festival are newly produced films that attracted large audiences in 2007. They include five Cambodian films, seven French films, and Thai and Vietnamese documentaries. The films will be shown in three languages - Khmer, English and French, Arnaudet said.
This CineMekong Film festival is supported by the French Embassy, Phnom Penh Municipality, Apsara TV and various companies. Apart from the films, there will also be an exhibition of photography by famous French and Cambodian photographers at the National Museum.
