Cambodia will be sending a Strong contingent of 230 Athletes and Officials to the 26th SEA Games coming up in November 2012. The NOCC Secretary General, Mr. Vath Chamroeun made this known earlier last week following the clearance of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia’s proposal by the Royal government.

“This is the biggest sports troupe ever sent to the SEA Games,” NOCC Secretary General Vath Chamroeun stated. “We have more competitors and more disciplines this time than ever before. We are better prepared than in previous years and hopefully we can improve our standing and return with more medals this time.” the Sport Official announced.

Cambodian competitors will be taking part in 20 different sports and will be looking to improve on their 40medals haul in the last Sea games held in Laos in 2009.

The Kingdom grabbed 3 golds, 10 silvers and 27 bronzes at the 25th SEA Games held in Vientiane in 2009 to finish ninth out of 11 competing nations.

The NOCC Secretary General, Vath Chamroeun pointed out that the Kingdom has set a target for 6 gold medals following the new additions to the Games, such as Kempo and Vovinam, which is expected to work to Cambodia’s advantage “because they are our strengths and we expect good number of medals from these disciplines.”

In addition to Kempo and Vovinam, Pentaque, Wrestling, Takewondo and Boxing are other sports the Kingdom is targeting gold medals.
