Travelling between Cambodia and Australia will become easier following the signing of a new air services arrangement between our two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss today welcomed the finalisation of negotiations to establish the arrangement.

“Over the last five years the passenger market between Australia and Cambodia has almost doubled, to over 108,000 people in 2013,” Mr Truss said.

“The Memorandum of Understanding signed today in Canberra formalises commercial air services arrangements for the mutual benefit of our two countries.

“These arrangements will particularly benefit aviation passengers by enabling airlines from both Cambodia and Australia to operate up to seven weekly services to and from Australia's major gateway airports.”

Mr Truss said the arrangement also included provision for regional Australia passenger services, dedicated cargo flights and code sharing.

“Australia now has air services arrangements in place with 90 economies, supporting tourism, business and trade growth,” he said.

“The Australian Government is committed to supporting the entry of Australian airlines into foreign markets and to ensuring we have the aviation capacity necessary to meet future demand.”

Qantas and Virgin Australia have already begun serving the Cambodia market through code sharing, under special arrangements settled in advance of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding.
