Most people who have lived in Phnom Penh more than a year and have thus experienced an Om Tuk, flee the capital. The migrational patterns of the Khmer dictates all cities empty during Khmer New Year as dutiful urban-migrant offspring return to the paddy field from whence they sprang. At Om Tuk, all people, of all ages, from all provinces across the Kingdom descend upon Phnom Penh.

The MoU was signed between Cambodia's Tanimex Company Ltd and Chongqing Wintus (New Star) Trade Development Ltd, which lists Liangping Wintus Silk & Textile Ltd as its subsidiary partner, Khmer-language daily Rasmei Kampuchea reported in a front page story. Both Chinese companies are recognized by the China Chamber of Commerce.

We spend more time with it than we do with friends and family. It speaks of our character. It houses both the practical and the treasured. It's a close bond. Tanja Wessels has respect for the handbag.

It's an age-old question. One we have all asked, or been asked at some point in time-if you are a woman that is. I'm sure men have their own version but that's another article altogether. The question proposed nestles neatly in the list that reads along the lines of: are you a dog or cat person? Shower or bath? Coffee or tea?

Prime Minister Hun Sen said Tuesday he was traveling personally to where a PMT Air passenger flight had disappeared and was believed to have crashed as weather conditions worsened and hopes of finding survivors dwindled.

Hundreds of military were scouring the jungle about 40 kilometers north of Kampot town Tuesday, so far unsuccessfully, for traces of the wreckage in a search personally led by Cambodian army commander-in-chief Ke Kim Yan and National Disaster Management Committee deputy president Nhim Vanda.

Kampot lies about 150 kilometers south-west of the capital.

The Associated Press (AP) was in town, supplying satellite feeds to news channels such as Al Jazeera, and CNN flew Australian reporter Hugh Rimington in to report from the courthouse and interview Tuol Sleng torture centre survivor Chim Mey.

Phnom Penh does not afford expats the fantastical royal treatment one might secretly dream of after too many viewings of the King and I at age 6. It's impossible to sit down at the royal palace for a 5 course meal - or at least I've never been invited. But Le Royal at Raffles Hotel does justice to its name. If your aim is princess-for-a-day, it's well worth the pricey royal treatment.

Location, location, location, you know the old adage and the magnificent temples of the ancient Khmer empire are no exception. The classic Khmer temple of Phnom Rung boasts Thailand's boldest location, perched atop an extinct volcano, while in Laos the Khmers left their legacy under the shadow of Lingaparvata mountain in the elegant lines of Wat Phu.
